Annual Wellness Imaging is now a required part of the comprehensive eye exam at Brandon Eyes. This advanced imaging protocol consists of a pair of scans that provide a deeper look into your eye health than traditional methods. Please be aware that these wellness scans are not typically covered by insurance and involve a separate fee. The process is fast, comfortable, and offers a detailed, non-invasive alternative to dilation for many patients.
At Brandon Eyes, we view Annual Wellness Imaging as the standard of care for every patient. We use the advanced Topcon Maestro 2R system to capture high-resolution images that allow us to monitor the health of your eye over time and screen for diseases that might be missed during a standard exam. This robotic system captures a 3D OCT Widefield scan and OCT Angiography in two quick passes. These images are critical for the early detection, diagnosis, and management of retinal conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.
The 3D OCT Widefield scan is a powerful diagnostic tool that acts like an MRI for your eye. It captures a high-definition, wide-angle digital view of your retina, including both the macula (central vision) and the optic nerve, in a single snapshot. This widefield view allows our doctors to analyze the individual layers of your retina to detect structural changes, fluid, or thinning that would be invisible to the naked eye.
OCT Angiography (OCT-A) is a breakthrough technology that allows us to visualize the blood vessels in your retina without the need for invasive dye injections. By detecting the motion of blood cells, this scan creates a detailed map of your eye’s vascular system. It is incredibly effective at spotting early signs of conditions related to blood flow, such as diabetic retinopathy and wet macular degeneration, often before they affect your vision.
